Don’t Let the Summer Heat Scorch Your Car’s Interior

There isn’t much worse than getting into your car after it is been parked in the hot summer sun. With this said, it’s crucial that you keep kids and pets out of the parked car because of how hot it gets. You know how awful it is when sliding into the driver’s seat. Oxford Automotive does have some tips to help keep the interior a bit cooler, however. Not cool enough for kids and pets, but cooler. Here they are.

Shade the Windshield

If you cannot find a shady place to park, use the windshield shade to keep the sun from beating through the windshield and hitting up your interior. As you know, these shades are held in place by lowering the visors. It’s easy to unfold the shades and put them in the windshield, and it’s even easier to remove them and fall them back up when you’re back in the car and ready to drive.

Shade the Windows

Today’s automobiles often come equipped with automatic shades for the rear window. Make sure to lower the shade once you parked the car if you have one. If you don’t, you can purchase window shades that are held on the inside of the windows using suction cups. Use them in all of your windows. This helps prevent the sun from beating down when you are parked as well as when you are driving.

Shade the Steering Wheel

As if a hot seat isn’t bad enough, touching the steering wheel after the car has been parked in the sun can burn your hands. It’s easy to shade the steering wheel by covering it with a towel. A hand towel is usually large enough to use when you want to cover the steering wheel. You can also use an old T-shirt or other cloth to keep the sun off the steering wheel while the vehicle is parked.

Park in Garages

Naturally, you want to park where you can find shade if you can find it. For example, it’s wise to park in public parking garages if they are close enough to your destination. You can also search for shady spots in parking lots. You may have to walk a little bit further, but the shade will help keep your car cool.

Let the Air In

Finally, you should always let a little bit of air inside the vehicle. Cracked the windows while the car is parked. Keep in mind that that still keeps the interior too hot for kids and pets. You can also open the doors when you are ready to go and allow the car to air out for a few minutes before you get inside.
